Senior DevOps Engineer (GATD)

About the role

Rakuten's Tech Management Section builds and operates DevOps platforms for public cloud adoption, CI/CD, monitoring, automation, security and AIOps, with a team spread across Japan, Singapore, India and China. It is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of DevOps delivery for the Global Ad Technology Department (GATD) service teams, working on large-scale, high-traffic platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary DevOps point of contact for GATD service teams, supporting them in building, deploying, monitoring and operating their services with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.
• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and observability platforms, ensuring reliable delivery and high availability.
• Automate production and non-production operations with tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Terraform and shell scripting, and manage containerised workloads with Docker, Kubernetes or equivalent.
• Provision and manage public cloud infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code, and run lifecycle management activities such as migrations, upgrades and EOL.
• Integrate security into CI/CD and infrastructure, including vulnerability scanning, secret management and secure configuration.
• Own critical incidents end-to-end, from response to root cause analysis and long-term fixes, and act as a technical escalation point.
• Evaluate and implement AI-driven tooling and emerging technologies to improve productivity and delivery efficiency.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of hands-on DevOps experience with high-traffic production systems.
• Proven experience designing CI/CD pipelines; artifact management tools (Nexus, Artifactory) are a plus.
• Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef) and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Public cloud experience (preferably GCP), including VPC networking.
• Strong UNIX/Linux system administration, scripting (Shell, Python), monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry), and security fundamentals.
• Strong communication skills across teams in multiple locations; English proficiency is essential.
• Flexible for emergency on-call support, including non-business hours.

Nice-to-have

• Hybrid and multi-cloud architecture, service mesh or advanced deployment tools (Istio, Argo CD).
• AI-driven DevOps tooling, release or change coordination experience, and databases such as Couchbase, MongoDB, Redis, MySQL.
• Knowledge of online advertising or marketing businesses.
