Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Diagnostics Product Team develops products for patients who want to check for sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or monitor their health during treatment, including sensors, processing algorithms and low-energy, battery-powered wireless devices. The Senior Mechanical Engineer operates and leads within a project team, designing, developing and verifying new products from concept through to production in the most cost- and time-efficient way while meeting ResMed Quality Standards. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, driving process improvements and possibly owning the design of product sub-systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the project team to define solutions and processes that meet user needs
• Work with external suppliers and across teams and disciplines to achieve project objectives
• Guide the mechanical team in solving technical issues and mentor engineers in technical capability, leadership and accountability
• Research and develop new technologies in the team's area of expertise
• Communicate proactively with peers and business stakeholders on project progress and remove roadblocks
• Take ownership of technical growth and adhere to ResMed engineering best practices and quality standards in a regulated medical device environment

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent
• Significant experience in a product development role designing complex electromechanical systems
• Preferred: significant engineering experience within the medical industry

Required skills

• Knowledge of the product development process, including preparing documentation for the design history file
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (PTC Creo products preferred)
• Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as Ansys, MoldFlow and Minitab
• Test, verification and validation traced to requirements, and development of test and process measurement capabilities
