Senior Mechanical Engineer – Debug

About the role

Google’s Debug Project in Singapore is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of automated systems for mosquito‑borne disease control. You will work alongside biologists, software engineers, and automation experts to create, test, and launch sterile‑mosquito technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and integrate electromechanical systems, including servo mechanisms, pneumatics, sensors and drive components.
• Own the full product lifecycle from requirement definition and prototype validation to production launch.
• Iterate designs with real‑world users, conduct prototype testing, and resolve technical issues in manufacturing.
• Apply engineering tools such as CAD, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFA) to verify performance.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve unique technical challenges and contribute to multi‑year roadmaps.
• Lead technical projects, mentor junior engineers and improve existing processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing plastic or metal components, mechanical assemblies, PCBs or flex circuits.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives from concept to scale.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers in a fast‑changing environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• CAD tools: 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, SolidWorks.
• Electromechanical design: servo systems, pneumatics, sensors, drive components.
• Engineering analysis: FMEA, DFA, engineering calculations.
• Knowledge of robotics/automated systems, industrial pneumatics, sensors and biotech equipment standards.
