Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Laboratory Technologist

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) reports to the Centre-IC and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and administration of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with regulations and accreditation standards. The role covers routine laboratory work, phlebotomy, electrocardiogram and spirometry, and requires close collaboration with NUP and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient registration, specimen reception, preparation and packing of specimens
• Carry out laboratory analysis such as urine microscopy, full blood count and HbA1c, and operate and maintain instruments according to work instructions
• Perform point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, ECG and spirometry procedures
• Verify and report accurate results on time, investigate and report anomalies
• Perform daily quality control checks and troubleshoot as required
• Maintain documentation and records for traceability, such as QC and maintenance checklists
• Assist in resolving patient queries and escalate to Centre-IC when necessary
• Follow work safety guidelines and infection control protocols, and assist Centre-IC with assigned tasks

Required profile

• Degree in Medical Laboratory, Biomedical Science or a related field
• Prior experience in a clinical laboratory at a public or private healthcare establishment is advantageous, as is experience in phlebotomy and heel prick sample collection; training will be provided
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task under tight deadlines and solve problems
• Positive attitude in dealing with hostile or disgruntled patients professionally
• Good interpersonal skills and teamwork
• Effective communication and the ability to converse in vernacular languages is an asset

Required skills

• Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is advantageous
• Phlebotomy and specimen collection
