Senior Professional Officer – Food Analysis

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a senior professional officer to lead food analysis teaching and research. You will design laboratory modules, supervise student projects and drive industry‑focused research in areas such as carbohydrate chemistry, proteomics and bioactive compound profiling.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver laboratory sessions and practice‑based modules in food chemistry, characterisation and analysis.
• Lead or co‑lead applied research projects and collaborations with industry partners and government agencies.
• Secure and manage research grants, supervise student capstone and Integrated Work Study Programme projects.
• Manage laboratory facilities, equipment and ensure compliance with safety policies.

Required profile

• Relevant Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Food & Biological Engineering or related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in food analysis of carbohydrates, proteins, polyphenols or metabolites, preferably in an industry research or innovation role.
• Strong supervisory and mentoring skills with a passion for teaching.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and ability to keep abreast of field developments.

Required skills

• Operating HPLC, MALDI‑TOF, Q‑TOF MS, SEC‑MALS and NMR spectroscopy for biomolecule analysis.
• Texture and structure characterisation using rheometer, AFM, DMA, TGA and DSC.
• Carbohydrate chemistry expertise (starch, oligosaccharides, fibres) and protein/ amino‑acid profiling.
• Experience with proteomic profiling, bioactive compound identification and metabolomics.
