Senior Research Fellow – VRFB Stack Development & Scaling

About the role

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan‑university institute focusing on systems‑level energy research for tropical megacities. We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to develop vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) stacks from pilot scale to commercial systems, ensuring performance, reliability and manufacturability while bridging R&D, testing and production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead VRFB stack development from prototype to commercial scale, guaranteeing performance and reliability.
• Design, assemble and validate stack configurations through structured testing, durability studies and failure analysis.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and supply‑chain teams to make designs production‑ready and cost‑effective.
• Establish test rigs, standard operating procedures and quality benchmarks, using performance data for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical, Electrochemical, Materials or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of hands‑on experience in electrochemical stack development, preferably with VRFBs, fuel cells or similar systems.
• Strong practical knowledge of stack scaling, assembly and performance testing.
• Experience in durability testing, failure analysis and data‑driven design improvement.
• Ability to work across R&D, manufacturing and testing teams in a pilot‑to‑commercial environment.
