Senior Research Fellow / Senior Research Scientist (Grid Modelling)

About the role

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), established in 2010, aims to enable energy transition through innovation, translation and partnerships. It is looking for a Senior Research Fellow or Senior Research Scientist in Grid Modelling to lead a project on grid modelling of landed housing estates in Singapore. The project studies grid congestion, voltage stability and frequency stability linked to the rise of distributed energy resources such as rooftop solar and EV charging, and the higher power consumption of renovated homes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of grid models of landed estates using tools such as PSCAD and PSSE
• Develop an assessment framework to identify areas with varying levels of network hosting capacity and potential constraints, initially focusing on low-voltage distribution networks
• Develop a heat map of the low-voltage distribution power grid showing potential constraints and their expected evolution over time
• Secure funded partnerships with industry collaborators
• Engage with researchers and professors in schools and colleges at NTU

Required profile

• Master's degree (for Senior Research Scientist) or PhD (for Senior Research Fellow) in power systems engineering or a related field
• At least 4 years of relevant experience or hands-on technical experience in power systems engineering
• International experience and a strong network of contacts in the region
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and time-management skills, able to develop solutions under tight deadlines
• Ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels, and to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Required skills

• Familiarity with grid modelling using PSCAD, PSSE, PowerFactory or equivalent tools
