Senior Staff Nurse (Clinical Instructor)

About the role

The Senior Staff Nurse (Clinical Instructor) works under the Senior Clinical Educator to lead orientation, in‑service and continuing education programmes for nursing staff, while modelling safe, evidence‑based patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, plan, implement and evaluate clinical education programmes, facilitating ward‑based learning and competency development.
• Provide clinical supervision, coaching and preceptorship to junior staff, newly recruited nurses, graduate nurses and nursing students, and give timely performance feedback.
• Guide junior staff in patient education, creating individualized health‑education and self‑management plans for patients, families and caregivers.
• Promote and role‑model safe, patient‑centred nursing practice, supporting admission, transfer, discharge and care transitions.
• Support early recognition and escalation of patient deterioration through appropriate assessment and clinical judgement.
• Monitor junior staff performance in patient‑care activities, intervening as needed to maintain safety.
• Participate in quality‑assurance, patient‑safety and work‑improvement initiatives, reviewing practices and contributing to improvement strategies.
• Support orientation and integration of new staff, identify learning needs and escalate performance concerns.
