Senior Technical Specialist – Natural Sciences & Science Education

About the role

The National Institute of Education (NIE) seeks a Senior Technical Specialist to support its Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) Department. You will ensure the smooth operation of teaching laboratories, maintain equipment, and uphold safety standards for both pre‑service and in‑service classes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for pre‑service, post‑graduate, and in‑service laboratory classes.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment used in teaching and research.
• Learn and apply safety protocols for a range of scientific instruments as directed by the Head of Department.
• Set up laboratory sessions, prepare consumables, and clean equipment after use.
• Plan and budget for chemistry instrument maintenance, upgrades, spare parts, and consumables.
• Ensure instruments remain in optimal condition and extend their service life.
• Enforce safety procedures in chemistry laboratories.
• Undertake additional duties in other science labs as assigned.

Required profile

• University degree in Chemistry or Physics.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a scientific or laboratory environment.
• Experience supporting students in higher education is a plus.
• Strong safety awareness and good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and collaborate effectively.
• Hard‑working, self‑disciplined, responsible and committed.
