Senior/Staff Mobile Software Engineer – Parents Gateway

About the role

Parents Gateway (PG) is the Ministry of Education’s key digital platform that connects schools and parents across Singapore. As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer specialising in Mobile Engineering, you will design and build the next‑generation mobile experience, defining architecture and technical practices for a high‑impact public service.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop a high‑quality mobile application that will become the parent‑facing experience of the new Parents Gateway.
• Shape architectural and technology decisions across application structure, state management, data flows, native capabilities and integrations.
• Establish reusable foundations, components and engineering patterns to enable consistent and efficient capability building.
• Drive improvements in startup time, responsiveness, stability, crash rates and network resilience across diverse devices.
• Strengthen automated testing, build pipelines, release processes, observability and App Store/Google Play delivery for safe, frequent releases.
• Raise the bar for mobile engineering through design reviews, technical standards and mentorship of other engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong professional experience building and operating production mobile applications.
• Proficiency in modern mobile development such as React Native, iOS/Swift or Android/Kotlin.
• Deep understanding of mobile application architecture, design and maintainable structure.
• Experience integrating mobile apps with backend APIs, authentication services, push notifications and native device capabilities.
• Knowledge of mobile performance, lifecycle, networking, offline handling and debugging production issues.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, application signing, build pipelines and store release processes.
• Familiarity with mobile monitoring, analytics, crash reporting and observability tools.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous technical problems, evaluate alternatives and drive solutions from design through implementation.
• Experience contributing to technical direction, conducting code and design reviews and mentoring engineers.
