Software (Embedded Firmware) Application Engineer

About the role

This role develops software solutions that address specific user needs or business challenges. The engineer designs, codes and implements software applications using appropriate programming languages, frameworks and tools, working closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, give technical insight and help deliver projects successfully.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement software applications according to specifications.
• Analyze design and determine coding, programming and integration activities based on project objectives and guidelines.
• Design limited enhancements, updates and programming changes for parts of end-user applications running on local, networked and Internet-based platforms.
• Write portions of testing plans, protocols and documentation, identify and debug code issues and suggest improvements.
• Identify opportunities for performance improvement and optimize code and application performance.
• Maintain, update and fix bugs in software applications.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales and customer services, and with internal and outsourced development partners on design status, progress and issue resolution.
• Support internal and external software products and generate ideas for software innovation based on market trends.

Required profile

• Four-year or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or commensurate work experience.
• Typically 2-4 years of experience in applications engineering, programming or a related field, or an advanced degree with little or no work experience.
• Preferred certifications in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python or JavaScript.
