Software (Embedded) Project Manager

About the role

This role oversees the development, maintenance and support of software applications, managing a team of software developers and coordinating with cross-functional teams so that applications meet user requirements, quality standards and business objectives. It drives software development projects and keeps applications healthy throughout their lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of individual contributors building new products, enhancements and updates, and coordinate projects for end-user applications on local, networked and Internet-based platforms.
• Define and execute the technical strategy, evaluating and recommending technologies, frameworks and tools.
• Manage the product delivery roadmap and develop sprints with engineering and product teams.
• Monitor and optimise application performance, scalability and reliability, resolving bottlenecks.
• Manage headcount, deliverables, schedules and costs across multiple projects, keeping goals, timelines and budgets on track.
• Communicate project status, escalate issues and manage relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers.
• Identify process improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
• Handle people-care management: hiring, annual performance plans, coaching and career development.

Required profile

• Four-year or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or commensurate experience.
• Typically 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in applications engineering, programming or a related field.
• Preferred certifications in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python or JavaScript.
