Staff Backend Engineer, Issuing Platform

About the role

Airwallex is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join its Issuing Platform team in Singapore. You will be responsible for designing, building, and evolving the most technically complex components of a global card‑issuing and transaction‑processing system. This senior individual contributor role offers the chance to shape high‑throughput, low‑latency services that power real‑time card transactions for millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate highly reliable, scalable backend services for card lifecycle management, transaction processing, and settlement.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of complex problems, from architecture through production monitoring.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams across the issuing platform.
• Ensure platform reliability, performance, and compliance with global payment schemes.
• Collaborate with product, security, and operations teams to deliver features quickly and safely.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior backend engineer building large‑scale, high‑throughput systems.
• Strong architectural and problem‑solving skills with a focus on reliability and scalability.
• Ability to work independently, drive technical decisions, and mentor junior engineers.
