Staff Engineer, TEM

About the role

Micron's Ye lab under Technology Development at its Singapore site has advanced Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEMs) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) machines. It is looking for a dedicated TEM Engineer to work with process and integration engineers, data scientists and other TEM experts on innovative TEM characterization methods that support next-generation memory technology. The successful candidate is placed at the corresponding engineer level depending on experience and education.

Key responsibilities

• Perform high-quality TEM analysis, including microstructure and chemical characterization using electron diffraction, EDS and EELS.
• Innovate and implement technical solutions for atomic-scale device characterization, speeding up learning in semiconductor processes.
• Develop and apply advanced TEM techniques to solve complex process challenges and support key technology projects.
• Correlate atomic-scale structural and chemical data with processing, physical modeling and device performance with multi-functional teams.
• Build and optimize DM scripts to improve data collection and processing efficiency.
• Lead technology roadmap initiatives with instrument vendors, industry partners and internal teams.
• Improve lab procedures for safety and efficiency, and provide detailed handover notes between shifts.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a related field.
• Extensive experience in TEM materials characterization, including EDS and EELS, and grain size and strain analysis from precession electron diffraction.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proven track record of innovation.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Required skills

• Advanced TEM characterization such as electron holography, tomography and ptychography (a plus).
• Proficiency in DM scripting and Python.
• Background in thermodynamics, kinetics, crystallography and diffraction.
• NanoMegas applications and Digital Micrograph scripting are a plus.
