Staff Quality Engineer, Customer Quality

About the role

Renesas Electronics is looking for a Staff Quality Engineer to support highly demanding strategic customers by driving disciplined technical quality execution across advanced semiconductor technologies. The role acts as a trusted customer-facing quality expert who leads complex escalations, turns customer expectations into internal execution plans and strengthens customer confidence through clear communication and data-driven analysis. It operates at both technical and customer-engagement levels, with no direct people-management responsibility.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a technical quality contact for key customers, supporting quality reviews, technical discussions and escalations.
• Monitor and analyse customer quality metrics (PPM, RMA, failure analysis requests, audits, scorecards) and support improvement plans.
• Drive customer issues from containment through root cause, corrective action and customer closure, working with fab, assembly/test, R&D, product engineering, supply chain and supplier quality teams.
• Prepare clear, data-backed updates for customer meetings and internal reviews, with defined owners, timelines and closure criteria.
• Use customer feedback, field data and failure analysis findings to reduce recurrence and support design-for-quality and reliability efforts.
• Support proactive risk reviews for critical applications, including audits and product change communications.

Required profile

• 10+ years of relevant experience with BSEE, or 8+ years with MSEE, or equivalent technical experience.
• Experience in customer quality, product engineering, reliability engineering, failure analysis or related semiconductor quality roles supporting strategic customers and cross-functional escalation teams.
• Proven experience in semiconductor processes (assembly, test, post-test).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external functional groups.

Required skills

• Problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why and Fishbone analysis.
• Quality metrics tracking (PPM, RMA, failure analysis requests, audits, scorecards).
