Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Citizen Dev)
airwallex · Singapore
Job description
About the role
Airwallex's Citizen Developers Infrastructure team builds and operates an internal platform that lets non-product engineering groups safely build and run workflows and automations, embedding security, compliance and software engineering best practices by default. This Senior/Staff Software Engineer role is based in Singapore and covers the platform services, developer experience and guardrails of the citizen-developer ecosystem.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and evolve the citizen-developer platform and tools that make it easy to create and operate automation and applications without deep infrastructure knowledge.
- Establish secure SDLC and guardrails so compliance and security are built in by default.
- Build self-serve development and operations tooling that reduces dependence on central platform engineers.
- Design, build and maintain the Temporal-based workflow infrastructure, addressing multi-tenancy, high availability and cost effectiveness.
- Contribute to the Kubernetes and GitOps foundation (ArgoCD, Helm, Terraform) so deployments are safe, repeatable and auditable.
- Take part in code reviews, technical design discussions and on-call rotation, leading incident response and driving long-term fixes.
- Document standards, best practices and reference architectures for teams building on the platform.
Required profile
- 6+ years of experience in software or platform engineering roles, building and operating backend or platform services in production.
- Experience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams, with a strong focus on developer experience.
- Comfortable working in highly collaborative, multi-team environments and translating platform constraints into clear APIs, contracts and paved paths.
- Proactive problem solver who can navigate ambiguity and drive complex technical problems to closure.
Required skills
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one strongly typed backend language (e.g. Golang, Java); familiarity with Python or Bash for tooling and automation.
- Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices/tooling (ideally ArgoCD and Terraform).
- Experience building platforms or tooling for non-product engineering users, or low-code/no-code/citizen-developer environments, is a strong plus.
- Proven experience with Temporal or similar workflow/orchestration systems, or large-scale stateful workloads in production, is a huge plus.
