AI Engineer (AIAP)

About the role

The AI Apprenticeship Programme (AIAP) is a flagship initiative of AISG, which brings together Singapore-based research institutions, AI start-ups and companies to support impactful research, develop talent and advance Singapore's AI efforts. This position is hosted at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) under the VP (Artificial Intelligence & Digital Economy)'s office. The AI Engineer will run the programme, lead AI-based projects and drive the development of cutting-edge AI technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Drive tasks stemming from AIAP, AIAP (Industry), LADP and AIIP.
• Train and mentor AI apprentices during the Deep-skilling and Project phases.
• Lead solution development for internal and external AI projects, performing research and maintaining AIAP technologies.
• Plan and execute LADP intakes and update the LADP syllabus.
• Oversee and contribute to LADP Enterprise, Essentials and the wider LADP portfolio.
• Support industry and community-building activities through talks, workshops and seminars.

Required profile

• Applicants from all disciplines and qualifications, including NITEC, Diploma and Degree holders.
• Strong portfolio of AI/ML projects showing delivery from scoping and data analysis through to deployment and documentation.
• Deep, practical knowledge of machine learning fundamentals applied to NLP, computer vision or tabular data.
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications and agentic systems, including prompt and context engineering, RAG, tool use, orchestration and evaluation, and basic knowledge of fine-tuning and dataset construction.
• Ability to scope and prioritise use cases, reduce ambitious briefs to deliverable technical scopes and raise the case for changing direction early.
• Expert-level Python skills and a commitment to software engineering best practices.
• Fluency with agentic coding tools, able to review, reject and rewrite generated code.
• Experience building data and model pipelines on at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Eagerness to mentor AI talent and communicate complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
