AI Engineer (Digital, AI and Transformation)

About the role

The Digital, AI and Transformation department is seeking an AI Engineer to design, prototype and develop practical technology solutions that address business needs. The role works closely with business users to understand their challenges, assess the appropriate use of AI, workflow automation or other technologies, and rapidly develop and validate solutions. It also supports the integration, deployment and technical environments needed to move successful solutions toward production.

Key responsibilities

• Rapid prototyping and technical validation: engage business users to understand their problems and processes, develop proof-of-concepts, test and validate solutions, and document findings and recommendations.
• Solution development and integration: build and maintain data pipelines, system integrations and supporting components, and help technical teams deploy and maintain solutions.
• Infrastructure and environment management: set up development environments, including cloud environments within Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) for AI workloads; configure AI models, APIs and databases; deploy lightweight AI applications for testing; and troubleshoot technical issues while applying security and data-handling practices.

Required profile

• Background in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/Machine Learning or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, software development, automation or related technical roles.
• Hands-on experience in rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development.
• Ability to troubleshoot, test and technically validate solutions, and to communicate with both business users and technical teams.

Required skills

• Strong programming skills, particularly Python, with experience building AI or automation solutions.
• Experience integrating AI models, APIs, data sources and applications.
• Understanding of responsible AI, data handling and solution evaluation.
• Nice to have: workflow automation and process digitalisation, cloud platforms and GCC, and public-sector data governance and AI governance.
