Assistant Director, Security Operations

About the role

The Assistant Director of Security Operations leads the Security Operations Centre (SOC) to ensure effective monitoring, investigation, and response to cyber threats. You will shape the SOC’s operating model, drive capability development, and maintain alignment with organisational security and governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Section Head to expand SOC capabilities and refine the operating model.
• Build, mentor, and manage a high‑performing SOC team through performance management and leadership development.
• Lead SOC capability projects, including detection engineering and tool integration.
• Provide oversight during cyber incidents and escalations to ensure coordinated, timely response.
• Support 24/7 monitoring duties, maintaining operational vigilance and command presence.
• Review and advise on the design and placement of intrusion detection and endpoint hardening solutions across host and network environments.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders to align SOC requirements with enterprise priorities.

Required profile

• Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
• At least 6 years of experience in cybersecurity roles, preferably with leadership responsibilities.
• Relevant certifications such as GIAC Security Operations Certified (GSOC), GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), CISSP or CISM are advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
• Experience using Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS).
• Knowledge of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions.
• Ability to evaluate, select and integrate cybersecurity tools.
