Assistant Manager, Health & Safety

About the role

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) at NTU is seeking an Assistant Manager to support its Health & Safety (H&S) team. Based in the Experimental Medicine Building, the role will help embed a strong safety culture across staff, students and research groups while liaising with the H&S committee and safety representatives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the H&S branch lead in delivering safety programmes and monitoring their effectiveness.
• Conduct safety briefings for new staff and students involved in scholarly research.
• Organise quarterly meetings with safety representatives to share updates and gather ground‑level feedback.
• Provide secretariat support for the LKCMedicine Health & Safety Committee, handling SOP reviews and safety practice discussions.
• Drive implementation and documentation of the Safety Management System.
• Perform regular safety inspections, audits, and maintain related records.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and develop mitigation plans.
• Track follow‑up actions on all reported safety breaches.
• Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills for fire, chemical spills and other scenarios.
• Maintain records of risk assessments, training, legal documentation and compliance processes.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification or experience in occupational health, safety or a related field.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations applicable to academic and laboratory environments.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to analyse incidents, identify root causes and propose corrective actions.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and incident investigation methodologies.
• Familiarity with risk assessment procedures and emergency response planning.
