About the role
The Associate Director/Director of Medical Planning will lead the medical planning process for a variety of healthcare facilities, from preventative and outpatient centers to acute and post‑acute environments. This senior role combines strategic design leadership with hands‑on project delivery, ensuring that clinical workflows and regulatory requirements are seamlessly integrated into architectural solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead medical planning across diverse healthcare typologies, developing strategic and master‑planning solutions based on clinical workflows and patient journeys.
- Design functional layouts at departmental and room levels, reflecting current evidence‑based design trends.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, administrators, and other clinical staff to align design outcomes with user needs.
- Ensure all planning solutions comply with regulatory codes and healthcare standards.
- Oversee project delivery from concept through construction documentation, leading user group meetings, data collection sessions, and workflow workshops.
- Develop and present planning concepts using diagrams, reports, narratives, and presentations tailored to clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal architecture and engineering teams to produce integrated, budget‑aligned designs.
- Review deliverables for quality, accuracy, and adherence to documentation standards.
- Maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, reports, and QA/QC checklists.
- Serve as primary client contact for medical planning discussions, facilitating consensus and delivering compelling presentations.
- Represent the firm in marketing activities, industry events, and interviews to showcase healthcare design leadership.
- Mentor and coach junior staff, fostering a collaborative environment and continuous improvement across planning teams.
Required profile
- Extensive experience leading medical planning and design projects for healthcare facilities.
- Proven ability to coordinate with clinical staff and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary planning teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
