Backend Engineer - Marketplace Promotion

About the role

Join Shopee's Marketplace Promotion team as a Backend Engineer, where you will help design and build the core services that power promotions such as vouchers, flash sales, and bundle deals. You will work on large‑scale distributed systems that drive traffic, increase seller orders, and enhance the buyer experience across the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze product requirements and assess feasibility for various promotion features.
• Design technical solutions with detailed documentation and architecture diagrams.
• Develop and maintain large‑scale distributed backend services optimized for performance, availability, and scalability.
• Implement monitoring and alerting to ensure system reliability.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver features on schedule.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 1 year of professional experience in backend development.
• Strong logical, analytical, and structured thinking abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more languages: Golang, Python, Java, C++.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, computer networks, operating systems, and databases.
• Knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals, caching mechanisms, and concurrency.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL) and NoSQL stores (Redis).
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Understanding of common network protocols: HTTP, TCP, UDP.
