Cargo Operator – LNG Trading

About the role
The Cargo Operator will support Shell’s LNG trading activities by ensuring compliance with internal standards, managing commercial obligations, and coordinating cargo movements across the globe. This role requires close collaboration with freight counterparties, suppliers, terminals and internal commercial teams to deliver seamless cargo operations.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure LNG operations fully comply with Shell’s internal standards, HSSE policies and licensing requirements.
- Execute all commercial and operational obligations arising from contracts, including nominations and deliveries.
- Manage pre‑ and post‑deal activities, working with freight counterparties, suppliers, end‑receivers and terminals to guarantee smooth cargo execution.
- Maintain up‑to‑date trading system records, invoicing, reconciliation and accrual clearances for internal and external deals.
- Multi‑task and resolve contractual or operational issues promptly, adding commercial and logistical value.
- Support commercial teams on feasibility assessments for new projects, contracts and spot cargoes.
- Agree supply schedules, calculate cargo pricing and understand relevant indices.
- Identify synergies with other Shell Trading functions and drive efficiency improvements.
- Perform complex contract reconciliations on large data sets within required timelines.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, surveyors and regulators.
- Proactively close operational disputes and engage external parties for best practices and digital solutions.
- Support LNG Operations and SLMT digitisation strategy, driving automation and continuous improvement while handling 24/7 global trading activities.
Required profile
- Strong understanding of LNG trading and cargo operations.
- Ability to work flexibly across time zones and respond to requests outside normal office hours.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with a proactive, commercial mindset.
- Experience managing relationships with external counterparties and service providers.
- Capability to handle large data sets and perform detailed reconciliations.
- Commitment to HSSE standards and continuous process improvement.
