About the role
ST Engineering Land Systems is seeking a Crew Systems Design Engineer to develop mechanical components and assemblies for crew‑centric systems on next‑generation military vehicles. The role involves taking concepts through to production release while ensuring ergonomics, robustness and manufacturability.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop hatches, doors, seats, restraints, internal fixtures, equipment mounts and stowage modules from concept to production.
- Create detailed 3D models, drawings and design documentation that meet project and manufacturing requirements.
- Perform trade studies, tolerance analysis, mechanical calculations, human‑factors analysis and FMEA in collaboration with specialist engineers.
- Integrate crew system designs with structural and internal subsystems to ensure spatial compatibility and maintainability.
- Evaluate feasibility, accessibility and assembly through design reviews (PDR, CDR) and mock‑up validation, presenting technical rationale to stakeholders.
- Support prototype fabrication, integration and testing, including test plan development and execution.
- Participate in design‑to‑cost, weight optimisation and modularity initiatives, applying DFMA principles.
- Explore additive manufacturing opportunities using DfAM and topology optimisation tools.
- Conduct failure analysis on components and assemblies, delivering corrective actions and recommendations.
- Provide production support by reviewing prints/drawings with suppliers, manufacturing and quality engineers.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Entry‑level candidates are welcome.
- Prior mechanical design experience in the defence sector is a plus.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo or CATIA.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, DFMA principles, kinematic assemblies and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with FEA tools is advantageous.
- Demonstrated interest in mechanical design for military vehicle crew systems.
