Data Scientist Intern

About the role

Lightspeed Studios is a Tencent business unit focused on advancing game development through stories, gameplay and advanced technology. Its Lightspeed Tech Center is an R&D department under Lightspeed Studios that develops PUBG Mobile and other games, and leads research and technical services for engines, audio, QA, AI and next-generation games. This internship involves applying machine learning, deep learning and data mining to game data.

Key responsibilities

• Research state-of-the-art machine learning, deep learning, social-network data mining and recommendation algorithms with game data, and help design, evaluate and improve the core algorithm and strategy for online AI serving.
• Perform in-depth statistical analysis of large-scale data, mine user behavior and attributes, and build user portraits.
• Conduct sentiment analysis, topic modeling and summarization on massive user comments.
• Identify user pain points through data and propose strategies to improve user retention.
• Improve data analysis pipelines by combining business requirements with data, using a distributed computation platform to build efficient and reliable data mining solutions.
• Research AI agents to upgrade existing working pipelines.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of statistical models, related machine learning principles and experience on data mining projects.
• Familiarity with machine learning, deep learning and recommendation algorithms such as clustering and classification, with deep understanding of at least one.
• Preferred: research experience such as academic publications, NLP experience (sentiment analysis, text summary, LLM fine-tuning, AI agents), causal inference or optimization algorithms, big data experience and familiarity with distributed frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark and Hive.
• Preferred: strong logical thinking, communication, business understanding and familiarity with game situations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Familiarity with basic data structures and algorithms.
