Director, HNW Underwriting

About the role

Prudential is seeking an experienced Director, HNW Underwriting to support its Bermuda High Net Worth (HNW) business. The role executes end-to-end underwriting for complex, high-value life insurance cases, including medical, financial and customer due diligence assessments. It handles large and complex HNW/UHNW cases, supports reinsurer engagement and acts as a key escalation and guidance point for junior underwriters, while supporting claims adjudication and post-issuance underwriting.

Key responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end underwriting assessments for Bermuda-based policies within assigned authority limits, including multi-jurisdictional structures and large sum assured policies
• Conduct medical and financial underwriting, including source of wealth/funds, insurable interest and complex ownership structures, and assess medical evidence such as APS, labs and specialist reports
• Define and manage evidence and requirements strategies, and ensure documented decisions aligned with underwriting guidelines and regulations
• Support claims adjudication and review of underwriting decisions at claim stage, and assess post-issuance changes
• Escalate underwriting risks such as anti-selection and fraud, monitor portfolio performance (loss ratio, expense ratio) and propose remediation actions
• Manage the case pipeline to meet turnaround time and service standards
• Partner with distribution teams, brokers and case managers on complex case structuring, and mentor junior underwriters

Required profile

• University graduate, preferably in Business, Risk Management, Actuarial Science or a related discipline
• 8-15 years of life underwriting experience, with at least 4 years in HNW/large case underwriting
• Professional qualification in Life Insurance (e.g. FLMI, ALU)
• Solid experience with reinsurers, compliance, legal and distribution teams (agency, bancassurance, brokerage)
• Proficiency in English, verbal and written
• Multi-jurisdictional or offshore insurance experience preferred
