Director of Software Engineering – Payments Technology

About the role

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a seasoned software engineering leader to head its Payments Technology area within Consumer and Community Banking. The Director will own technical strategy, drive large‑scale delivery, and champion innovation across multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business and product owners to translate ambiguous needs into clear technical requirements and delivery plans.
• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of low‑latency, scalable solutions using modern engineering practices.
• Establish and champion engineering standards, coach teams, and remove delivery impediments.
• Drive non‑functional requirements, modernization, and risk/control considerations in partnership with leadership.
• Influence peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology.
• Facilitate technical forums and architecture discussions to align decisions with broader strategy.
• Coordinate delivery across teams, managing plans, timelines, dependencies, and integration requirements.
• Define and evolve integration strategies across applications, systems, and processes.
• Promote cloud adoption and enablement across engineering teams.
• Create and maintain technology roadmaps, communicating progress to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
• 10+ years of applied software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams and delivering complex, time‑sensitive products.
• Proven ability to influence across matrixed organizations and deliver outcomes at scale.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
