Electrical Engineer – Ship Systems

About the role

The Electrical Designer works with a team of engineers and electricians to coordinate and carry out onboard and yard tasks related to new builds, repairs, and improvements of electrical systems. The role involves defining design specifications, validating designs, managing vendors, and ensuring timely, on‑budget delivery of ship electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Work with project engineers to define electrical and electronic system design specifications
• Validate electrical designs and technical data for ship systems
• Manage external vendors and contractors to deliver systems that meet design specifications and regulatory regulations
• Ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery of electrical systems
• Provide guidance to ensure commissioning of vessel systems is completed on time
• Ensure quality of deliverables and adherence to approved company processes
• Identify and minimize areas of risk and waste
• Provide technical and design expertise
• Understand class and flag requirements
• Ensure OHS&E policies and guidelines are adhered to

Required profile

• Communicate with clients, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure project success
• Develop and maintain external relationships with partners, clients, regulatory bodies, and organizations
• Hold a degree or diploma in Electrical engineering or a related discipline
• Understand ship systems and interpret engineering drawings
• Demonstrate passion for quality work and continuous improvement
• Independent, objective‑driven, reliable and motivated
• Excellent command of the English language
• Sensitivity to culturally diverse environments
• Ability to devise and implement innovative work practices to improve productivity
• Strong organizational skills with a focus on achieving results
