Elementary School Counsellor

About the role

An Australian International School in Singapore is looking for a School Counsellor to support the welfare of children and young people. The role involves counselling, individual case management and student support programs, and starts on 12 April 2027. Pre-employment background checks are carried out before any appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership that enables the effective delivery of whole-of-school educational programs and services supporting the inclusion of all students.
• Deliver counselling and individual case management using a multidisciplinary approach, within competing priorities.
• Develop and implement student support programs and services for students with high support needs, aligned with departmental policies and procedures.
• Respond to sensitive and complex student issues within an ethical framework.
• Work with students, parents and staff, and adapt counselling approaches to diverse student needs in a multicultural school environment.

Required profile

• Minimum of three years full-time, supervised experience working with children and/or young people in a counselling or pastoral care role, preferably in an international school.
• Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field from a recognised university; Master's degree preferred.
• Advantageous: professional membership or credentials of a state/national counselling association, a certificate in cognitive behaviour therapy or similar, and current registration or eligibility to register as a counsellor.
• Written application addressing the Key Result Areas, references and an interview contribute to selection.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships within and beyond the school community.
• Understanding of child development, emotional well-being and behavioural management strategies.
• Experience delivering social-emotional learning programs.
• Knowledge of safeguarding policies and child protection procedures.
