Facilities Technician – Commercial Buildings

About the role

The Facilities Technician supports the operation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, housekeeping, and repairs of commercial buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, grounds, and maintenance equipment for assigned properties. You will respond quickly to emergencies and routine service requests, ensuring safe and efficient building operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with troubleshooting and repair of packaging machinery, plumbing, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, grounds equipment, and HVAC systems.
• Clean, lubricate, and service pumps, valves, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic devices.
• Install and modify building equipment and systems; replace and repair finishes such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, wallpaper, paint, piping, and flooring.
• Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for safety hazards and perform preventative maintenance.
• Maintain and operate fire and life‑safety systems, including fire alarms and fire pumps.
• Perform carpentry tasks and snow removal when required.
• Use smartphones, tablets, computers, web‑based applications, and building automation systems for work orders and reporting.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a commercial property or facilities setting.
• Technical, vocational or on‑the‑job training in at least one area such as HVAC, electrical, mechanical, process controls, plumbing, painting, carpentry or engine repair.
• Valid driver’s licence (commercial licence may be required) with a good driving record.
• Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Willingness to work extended periods, shift work, on‑call duties and occasional stand‑by during emergencies.
