Facility Management Engineer / Technical Officer

About the role

This position supports the daily operation and preventive maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems within a data centre environment. The incumbent works closely with the Operations Lead to ensure 100% uptime of power, cooling and fire safety infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients and respond to service requests promptly.
• Handle emergency calls during shift work and coordinate immediate fault containment.
• Assist in daily management of data‑centre operations, including walkthroughs to record and report faults.
• Monitor and man the Facility Operations Centre, responding to EPMS, BMS and fire‑system alarms.
• Execute routine checklists to verify environmental conditions and M&E system performance.
• Induct and permit subcontractors, reviewing method statements, risk assessments and MSDS for compliance.
• Maintain logs of instrument readings, equipment status and consumable stock levels.
• Provide shift handovers, incident reporting and ensure adherence to quality, health & safety policies.

Required profile

• I.T.E./Nitec/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management or equivalent.
• 3‑5+ years experience in a data centre or other critical environment (hospital, pharma, power plant preferred).
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centres.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work in a team and follow escalation procedures.

Required skills

• Knowledge of feeders, transformers, generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS, battery banks, ATS/STS, PDU/PMM.
• Experience with chillers, air handling units, chilled water plant, CRAC units.
• Familiarity with fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
• Understanding of PLCs, relay logic and building management systems (BMS).
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio); SharePoint preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of HVAC and electrical life‑safety monitoring systems.
