Hardware Engineer – Consumer Devices

About the role

As a Hardware Engineer on OpenAI’s Consumer Products team, you will design, develop, and integrate complex hardware systems for AI‑driven consumer devices. Based in Singapore, the role follows a hybrid model with four days on‑site and offers relocation support.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and validate mechanical and electrical subsystems from early development through mass production.
• Collaborate with design, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure quality, reliability, and scalability.
• Drive DFM/DFA reviews, iterate designs, and bring up prototype and pilot builds.
• Debug system‑level issues, lead root‑cause investigations, and resolve them.
• Partner with global suppliers and cross‑functional teams to execute from concept to launch.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in consumer hardware, consumer electronics, or advanced product development.
• Proven track record of taking at least one consumer product from concept to mass production.
• Hands‑on problem‑solving mindset and ability to work in fast‑paced environments.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering expertise (design, prototyping, validation).
• Electrical engineering expertise (circuit design, integration).
• Systems engineering knowledge, including DFM/DFA.
• Experience with supplier collaboration and manufacturing processes.
