Lead Biotechnologist (Upstream)

About the role

AbbVie is hiring a Lead Biotechnologist (Upstream) in Singapore for its biologics production facility. The role covers cGMP manufacturing operations, including set-up and calibration with engineers, rework and quality testing, accurate batch documentation and acting as deputy to the Manufacturing Supervisor. It is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Own the upstream area (Inoculation, Cell Culture and Recovery) and run validated manufacturing operations using systems such as LIMS, SAP, DeltaV and POMSnet
• Complete batch documentation accurately and safely, resolve batch document errors quickly and initiate non-conformance records
• Support and lead operations and troubleshooting during shifts, drive project improvements and resolve anomalous events
• Ensure a safe work environment, lead or take part in safety risk assessments and process hazard analyses, and prepare the plant for audits
• Plan resources with the supervisor, assign tasks to the shift team and represent the shift in cross-functional meetings
• Coach and train other biotechnologists (100% trainer competency) and help develop training materials

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a science, pharmacy or engineering field, or equivalent
• At least 5 years of experience in biologics or pharmaceutical manufacturing, including 3+ years in upstream (Inoculation, Cell Culture and Recovery)
• Experience leading a shift team
• Shift work experience and good teamwork and communication skills

Required skills

• Knowledge of complex technical issues and manufacturing in a biopharmaceutical environment
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and solve problems independently
