Lead/Senior Biotechnologist - Biologics Manufacturing

About the role

AbbVie is looking for Senior and Shift Lead Biotechnologists for its biologics manufacturing pipeline in Singapore. The role covers cGMP manufacturing operations in the production facility, including set-up and calibration with engineers, rework and quality testing, accurate batch documentation and shift leadership. The incumbent stands in as Deputy for the Manufacturing Supervisor in their absence.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute manufacturing operations using validated programs such as LIMS, SAP, DeltaV, POMSnet and automated control systems, and drive projects that streamline processes.
• Own the stream-specific area: upstream (inoculation, cell culture and recovery), downstream (chromatography, filtration, ultrafiltration, final filling) and central service (buffer/media preparation, autoclave, glasswash, cleaning, sampling).
• Ensure a safe work environment in line with EHS policies, lead safety risk assessments and process hazard analysis as an operations representative.
• Keep batch records complete and accurate, resolve document errors quickly, prevent human error and prepare the plant for regulatory audits and inspections.
• Help plan the shift, assign tasks to biotechnologists, manage unplanned downtime and represent the shift in cross-functional meetings.
• Create a positive team environment, coach and train other biotechnologists (100% trainer competency) and help develop training materials.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a science, pharmacy or engineering field, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in the biologics/pharmaceutical industry, including 3+ years in the relevant stream (upstream, downstream or central service).
• Strong problem-solving skills, good communication and teamwork, and experience in shift work.
• Experience leading a shift team is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of complex technical issues and manufacturing experience in a biopharmaceutical or similar environment.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and take ownership of assigned tasks.
