Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Experience Design (Interior)

About the role

Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Design & Media is looking for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Experience Design with a strong background in Interior Design or Spatial Design. The role brings an interior and spatial design lens to the Diploma in Experience Design, helping students see how human-centred design, placemaking, emerging technologies and spatial storytelling create meaningful experiences. The work covers teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship and industry collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and develop curriculum, learning resources and assessments in experience design, covering design research, human-centred design, design thinking, ideation, visualisation, prototyping and design development.
• Integrate Interior and Spatial Design expertise into multidisciplinary learning, guiding students in spatial planning, user journey mapping, placemaking, environmental psychology, materiality and spatial storytelling.
• Mentor and supervise students on industry projects, exhibitions, competitions and multidisciplinary collaborations.
• Lead or support industry collaborations, consultancy projects and applied research on experience design and spatial innovation.
• Keep curriculum current with sustainability, inclusive design, smart environments, immersive and XR experiences, digital twins and Generative AI.
• Build industry partnerships for applied projects, internships, consultancy and graduate employability.
• Support course management, academic administration, student recruitment and outreach, and deliver Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes.

Required profile

• Qualification in Interior Design, Spatial Design, Architecture or a related discipline; at least 5 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
• Strong portfolio of spatial, environmental or experiential design projects.
• End-to-end design experience, including research, concept development, spatial planning, documentation, prototyping and presentation.
• Understanding of spatial design principles, user-centred design, materiality and construction considerations.
• Awareness of sustainable, inclusive and smart design practices.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and project management skills.
• Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching or leading design teams is an advantage.
