Legal Counsel – Music Publishing

About the role

Spotify is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join its Legal Licensing team in APAC. You will work closely with Business Affairs, Finance, and Product teams to shape the legal frameworks that enable music streaming across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear, practical legal advice on music publishing, copyright and licensing matters across APAC markets.
• Structure, draft and negotiate complex agreements with music publishers and collective management organisations (CMOs).
• Partner with Business Affairs and cross‑functional teams to support commercial negotiations and strategic initiatives.
• Advise on legal implications of new product features, launches and business models involving musical works.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, copyright laws and local regulatory frameworks.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 + years of experience in a law firm or in‑house role with exposure to music publishing or copyright law.
• Proven track record negotiating licensing agreements for digital services, publishers and CMOs.
• Strong understanding of the commercial dynamics of the music industry and digital platforms.
• Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, preferably in APAC markets.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to simplify complex legal topics.
