Mechanical Engineer – Design & Project Management

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will lead the development of safe, practical and sustainable mechanical system designs, ensuring they meet project objectives and client requirements. This role coordinates across multiple disciplines, provides technical guidance, and ensures compliance with authority codes and project standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead internal design reviews with support from the Head of Department and Design Managers.
• Implement design checklists, track progress and coordinate with CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, ELV, Piping and Process teams.
• Prepare cost estimates and budgets during programming and conceptual design phases.
• Review mechanical tender documentation to ensure proper specification of equipment and materials.
• Collaborate with the commercial department during procurement and aim to minimise variation orders.
• Represent the Mechanical Team in client meetings and obtain design approvals.
• Manage change orders, capture design changes and raise Change Management Field Instructions.
• Calculate OPEX & CAPEX for major utility equipment and support Greenmark and renewable energy initiatives.
• Mentor and train senior engineers and other team members, set goals and conduct performance reviews.
• Promote safe working practices and maintain a professional workplace atmosphere.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical system design and project coordination.
• Strong understanding of authority code compliance and ability to recommend waivers when necessary.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary design reviews and guide junior engineers.
• Experience in cost estimation, budgeting and tender documentation review.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and internal reporting.
