Mechanical Engineer – Humanoid Robotics
Menlo Research · Singapour
Job description
About the role
As a Mechanical Engineer at AsimovMenlo Research you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of the structural and kinematic systems that enable a humanoid robot to move. You will take concepts through to production‑ready hardware, working closely with electrical and firmware teams to ensure seamless integration.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical assemblies for joints, actuators, sensor mounts, and structural members across the full humanoid body.
- Create detailed 3D parts, drawings, and assembly models in SolidWorks, including GD&T callouts.
- Run hands‑on test rigs for load testing, fatigue cycling, thermal soak, and kinematic validation.
- Conduct DFM reviews with contract manufacturers, assess tooling constraints, cycle times, and failure modes.
- Set up and instrument test stands, wire sensors, collect data, and close the loop on design iterations.
- Select appropriate materials (plastics, metals, composites) and joining methods for load and production requirements.
- Collaborate with firmware and electrical teams to integrate actuators, sensors, and PCBs, ensuring proper cable routing and serviceability.
- Contribute to open‑source hardware releases, including BOMs, build guides, and CAD documentation.
Required profile
- 3+ years of hands‑on mechanical design experience on high‑complexity electromechanical products.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for parts, assemblies, surfaces, and drawings.
- Proven experience with sheet‑metal fabrication, traditional and additive manufacturing.
- Solid understanding of GD&T and production drawing creation.
- Ability to run and interpret static, dynamic, and thermal FEA simulations.
- Comfort working within aggressive cost and weight constraints while maintaining reliability.
Required skills
- SolidWorks
- GD&T
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Sheet‑metal fabrication
- Additive manufacturing
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Load testing, fatigue testing, thermal testing
- Kinematic validation
- Material selection (plastics, metals, composites)
- Test rig setup and instrumentation
