Principal or Senior Product Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies seeks a Principal or Senior Product Engineer to own the lifecycle of optical components, driving new product introduction and continuous improvement in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage product lifecycle from RFQ through production, coordinating with Sales, Marketing and Operations to meet customer requirements.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Tests, First Lot Production and First Article Inspection, ensuring all specifications are satisfied.
• Maintain accurate Bill of Materials and manufacturing routing, tracking turnaround times and delivery performance.
• Drive yield, scrap reduction, COGS optimization, on‑time delivery and PPM improvements.
• Oversee packaging, raw materials, tooling, jigs and fixtures readiness for production.
• Act as primary technical interface with customers and collaborate in weekly status reviews to monitor performance metrics.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in optics, opto‑mechanical or optoelectronic manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of optical components, functions and applications.
• Proven problem‑solving, critical‑thinking and decision‑making abilities.

Required skills

• SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD proficiency.
• Hands‑on jig and fixture design experience.
• Experience with optical testing, measurement and metrology systems.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
