Pastoral Intern

About the role

The pastoral intern works closely with ministry pastors and church leadership to gain practical experience and training in pastoral ministry. The intern assists the pastor and other church leaders in ministries such as worship, teaching, outreach and pastoral care, and is assigned a supervising pastor who defines competency needs and assigns projects, programmes and training. The internship lasts 18 to 24 months.

Key responsibilities

• Youth and young adult ministries: develop and lead programmes such as Bible studies, small groups and outreach events.
• Pastoral care and counselling: respond to prayer requests, pastoral needs and crisis situations within the congregation.
• Discipleship and cell groups: facilitate or assist in leading cell groups and Bible studies, guide individuals in growing in their faith and Scripture, and disciple new converts personally.
• Outreach and evangelism: take part in outreach events and evangelism, and collaborate with the missions team on overseas outreach.
• Worship services: help plan and lead worship services, including selecting music, coordinating volunteers and supporting during services.
• Leadership development: take part in leadership meetings and training opportunities.
• Administration and events: help with office tasks, event coordination, and oversee areas such as ushering, altar calls and hospitality; plan at least one event (e.g. Good Friday, Easter).
• Other duties as assigned by the pastor or the Senior Pastor's Office.

Required profile

• Diploma in Theology, Divinity or a related field; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• 1 to 3 years of pastoral experience, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith and values and a passion to serve in ministry.
• Able to work on weekends and attend church services (5-day work week).

Required skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work collaboratively and follow directions from pastors and church leadership.
