Principal Coating Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Coating Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimisation of optical coating solutions for laser‑based photonics applications. The role combines advanced thin‑film engineering with close collaboration across sales, manufacturing, and R&D teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise optical coating stacks using Ion Beam Sputtering (IBS) and Magnetron Sputtering (MS) technologies.
• Review technical data packages and engineering drawings received through RFQs and generate Specification Review Forms when needed.
• Support sales and marketing during customer visits, technical reviews, and new requirement assessments.
• Prepare evaluation reports, process plans, test plans, SOPs, and in‑process control plans for new product introductions (NPI).
• Lead FAT and FLP activities, create engineering checklists, BOM templates, ECNs, and ECOs, and resolve technical issues on the shop floor.
• Conduct failure analysis on field returns, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Identify and drive continuous‑improvement projects to enhance yield, quality, and cycle time.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Optics, Physics or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience developing and manufacturing optical coating products using IBS, MS, and PVD for OEM markets such as medical devices, semiconductors, optoelectronics, or avionics.
• Proven track record in designing and optimising complex optical coatings.
