Quantity Surveyor (M&E)

About the role

A construction firm specialising in mechanical and electrical (M&E) projects is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to help ensure financial control and commercial success across its portfolio. You will manage the full quantity surveying cycle, from early-stage budgeting to final account settlement, in a stable, office-based environment with a five-day work week.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quantity take-offs and prepare detailed project costings and budgets for M&E construction works.
• Source and evaluate sub-contractors and suppliers, negotiate prices and keep procurement budgets under control.
• Monitor and control expenditure throughout procurement so projects stay on budget.
• Prepare and submit progressive payment claims and variation orders to clients accurately and on time.
• Assess, evaluate and certify sub-contractor claims in line with agreed terms.
• Compile project profit and loss statements and manage final accounts at project close-out.
• Support management and senior staff with related commercial matters as required.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline; equivalent diplomas considered.
• One to two years of relevant experience in construction or a closely related industry; applicants with no prior experience but the right academic background are welcome.
• Strong communication skills, able to liaise with site teams, clients and management.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a systematic approach to costs and documentation.
• Good negotiation and coordination abilities, comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office, including well-organised documentation and spreadsheets.
• Cost estimation, quantity take-offs and claim handling.
