Research Assistant – 2D Material Nanophotonics

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Assistant to advance low‑dimensional nanophotonics. The role focuses on developing near‑field, nonlinear and quantum optical properties of emerging 2D materials for nano‑optical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop theoretical models for nanophotonic systems based on low‑dimensional materials.
• Perform numerical simulations and design photonic nanostructures using tools such as Matlab, MEEP and RCWA.
• Build and optimise optical setups for material and device characterisation.
• Conduct quantum and nonlinear optical experiments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on joint research projects.
• Assist the Principal Investigator in laboratory and research group management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical/Device Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
• Strong understanding of nonlinear and quantum optics.
• Ability to work independently, manage projects and meet deadlines.
• Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills.
