Research Assistant / Associate, AI in Medicine

About the role

The NTU Centre of AI in Medicine (C-AIM) is a university research centre bridging artificial intelligence and healthcare. It seeks a Research Assistant or Research Associate to support both the daily operations of the centre and strategic research on healthcare AI implementation. The role covers infrastructure, AVIT systems, procurement, audits and documentation, as well as behavioral, communication and social science research, including human-machine interaction, survey design, cohort recruitment, data analysis and grant and proposal support.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, operate and maintain AVIT, computing and infrastructure resources, including microaccess laboratories and AI simulation rooms, and provide technical support and liaison with vendors and service providers
• Maintain inventories, usage records, documentation and operational trackers
• Support studies on human-machine interaction, user behaviour, trust, acceptability, adoption and outcomes-based evidence, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, observational and simulation studies and conversational analysis
• Coordinate participant or cohort recruitment, consent documentation, scheduling, data collection and follow-up
• Prepare, clean, organize and analyze qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods data
• Support AI implementation projects: needs assessment, workflow mapping, stakeholder documentation, user feedback and translation of findings into recommendations
• Help develop, test and evaluate AI/ML workflows, prototypes, dashboards or tools, and support deployment and maintenance of AI/ML applications on institutional or cloud platforms
• Prepare research protocols, reports, presentations, grant applications, proposals, conference materials, ethics submissions and manuscripts
• Handle procurement, purchase requests, vendor coordination, asset tracking and resource planning, and support audits, compliance checks and institutional reporting
• Coordinate with finance, procurement, HR, estates, IT and other administrative departments

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (Assistant) or Master's degree (Associate) in a social science, behavioral science, health informatics, data science or closely related field
• Training or experience in behavioral, communication, psychology, social science or econometric research methods, including survey design, interviews, focus groups, observational studies, simulation studies, conversational analysis and mixed-methods research
• Competence in preparing, cleaning and analyzing qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods data
• Strong written and verbal communication and good interpersonal and coordination skills
• Ability to support daily centre operations and research administration, including recruitment, consent documentation, ethics submissions and project reporting

Required skills

• Advantageous: familiarity with R, Python, Stata, SPSS, NVivo, ATLAS.ti or Excel
• Willingness to learn additional data analysis or healthcare AI tools
