Research Assistant – Passive Design & Sustainable Materials

About the role
The College of Design and Engineering is seeking a Research Assistant to support research‑by‑design projects focused on passive heating and cooling technologies suited to the Asian climate. The role involves investigating low‑carbon building materials, agricultural by‑products, and thermal comfort in equatorial zones.
Key responsibilities
- Research and illustrate indigenous passive heating/cooling technologies.
- Explore materials and construction methods with low or negative carbon footprints.
- Investigate agricultural by‑products as building materials and architectural elements.
- Study thermal comfort conditions specific to equatorial regions.
- Collect and analyse field data, produce visualisations, and develop a taxonomy of geometries and materials.
- Document field work and produce detailed illustrations.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Sustainable Design, or a related field.
- Strong research background with experience in design‑oriented investigations.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Required skills
- Proficiency in 3D modelling software.
- Proficiency in drafting software.
