Research Assistant – Quantum Materials Physics

About the role

The Belopolski Research Group (QuantumX Labs) at Nanyang Technological University seeks motivated Research Assistants to investigate topological quantum materials. The role involves synthesising novel quantum phases, characterising their properties, and developing theoretical models to support experimental findings.

Key responsibilities

• Synthesise atomically precise thin films of topological materials using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE).
• Integrate epitaxial layers with exfoliated two‑dimensional materials and fabricate device structures.
• Characterise electrical transport, Hall response, non‑linear transport and magnetisation.
• Perform angle‑resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements at synchrotron facilities.
• Develop and apply machine‑learning tools for high‑throughput MBE optimisation.
• Construct theoretical models and conduct ab‑initio calculations to interpret experimental data.
• Collaborate with nanofabrication facilities and other research groups within NTU.

Required profile

• Degree in mathematics, quantum physics, electrical engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in quantum materials, topological phases and condensed‑matter physics.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team.
