Research Associate, AI for Medicine

About the role

The MVAIT Lab at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is hiring a Research Associate to pioneer research on medical image processing, medical visual technology and large language models, and on the interface of AI algorithms with surgical robotics. The Research Associate designs and implements cutting-edge algorithms and develops AI tools tailored to clinicians, radiologists and biologists.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement AI models to analyse multimodal medical datasets (MRI, CT, X-ray, OCT, ultrasound) for organ segmentation, 3D modelling and intelligent diagnosis
• Explore large-scale pre-trained models, including LLM-based consultation systems and multi-modal disease management systems
• Develop, test and optimise AI software for medical tasks, and use data storage technologies to manage multimodal data securely
• Enhance AI output visualisation with VR/AR and 3D visualisation to aid clinical observation and intern training
• Collaborate on AI-assisted robotic solutions for surgery, including pre-operative planning and intra-operative guidance
• Ensure research complies with ethical guidelines and patient data privacy regulations
• Stay current on medical imaging, image processing, robotics and large language models, and work with external researchers and interdisciplinary teams
• Write research proposals and grant applications, mentor junior researchers, students and interns

Required profile

• Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
• Extensive experience in deep learning, AI, computer vision, 3D reconstruction algorithms and large-scale pre-trained models
• Solid research foundation and engineering experience in AI for medicine
• Experience analysing medical imaging datasets, especially ophthalmic imaging
• Deep understanding of ethics, patient data privacy and compliance in medical research
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and to manage several projects at once
• Excellent written and verbal English; additional languages are a plus
