Research Associate – Photocatalysis

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Associate to advance photocatalytic systems for solar‑driven fuel and chemical production. You will work on semiconductor photocatalysts for water splitting, CO₂ reduction and oxidative organic reactions, contributing to a state‑of‑the‑art laboratory platform.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members to deliver research project milestones.
• Prepare high‑quality reports and documentation of experimental findings.
• Design and implement a bespoke photocatalytic characterization setup, including a solar light simulator and custom reactor.
• Perform material characterization of photo(electro)catalysts using advanced techniques.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, manage procurement, and liaise with suppliers.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners on renewable‑energy projects.
• Mentor junior group members on daily laboratory activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in inorganic/organic photocatalyst synthesis and functionalization.
• Strong background in material characterization (SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, UV‑vis).
• Experience with organic and gas product analysis (GC, NMR, HPLC) is highly desirable.

• Gas Chromatography (GC), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, High‑Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
