Research Associate - Structural Fire Engineering

About the role

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a Research Associate to study the behaviour and performance of structures under fire conditions. The post joins a research team working on structural fire engineering, with work on experimental investigations, numerical modelling and advanced computational methods, including AI-assisted approaches.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on structural behaviour and fire resistance under fire conditions.
• Develop numerical models and run structural fire simulations using finite element software.
• Assist in planning and running structural fire experiments and analyse test results.
• Investigate structural performance, failure mechanisms and fire resistance through experimental and numerical studies.
• Explore AI and machine learning applications for efficient structural fire analysis.
• Prepare technical reports, research publications and presentations, and support project deliverables.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Good knowledge of structural mechanics, structural analysis and structural behaviour.
• Knowledge of structural fire engineering or experimental structural testing is an advantage.
• Programming skills in Python or MATLAB and interest in AI applications are beneficial.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
