Singapore Institute of Technology
Job description
About the role
The Singapore Institute of Technology is seeking a Research Engineer (3D Artist - XR & AI Simulation) for its AI & Data Science research division. The role joins a multidisciplinary team working on AI-enabled solutions for transportation operations and maintenance. The engineer creates 3D models, animations and digital assets for VR, AR and AI research, used in immersive XR applications and simulation environments for AI model development, training, testing and validation. The candidate works with researchers, AI engineers, XR developers, robotics researchers and industry partners.
Key responsibilities
- Create 3D models, environments, textures, materials and digital assets from real-world equipment, facilities, photographs, CAD data, scans and other references.
- Develop 3D animations, including mechanical movements, equipment operations, human activities and maintenance procedures.
- Design and optimise 3D assets and environments for VR and AR, considering real-time rendering performance.
- Build realistic simulation environments and synthetic 3D scenes for AI model training, testing and validation.
- Collaborate with researchers and industry partners to reproduce real-world scenarios in virtual environments.
- Support demonstrations, research prototypes, technical presentations, videos and other visualisation materials.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in 3D art, animation, game development, digital media, interactive media or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience creating and optimising 3D models, environments, animations, textures and materials for XR (VR/AR/MR).
- Ability to build accurate 3D models and environments from photographs, drawings, CAD models, scans and point clouds.
- Experience in 3D simulation environments and synthetic data for AI training is a strong advantage; knowledge of NVIDIA Omniverse, Isaac Sim, photogrammetry, 3D scanning, LiDAR or point-cloud processing is strongly encouraged.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Blender, Maya, 3ds Max or equivalent 3D tools.
- Portfolio or personal website showing 3D modelling, texturing, animation and XR assets; applications without one may not be considered.
Fixed-term position, start date 16 September 2026. Apply through the institute's online application form.
